Fanshawe Student Union Elections (FSU) are buzzing around campus with voting taking place this Wednesday.
Some issues have been on the rise for candidates, FSU candidate Taimoor Mujahuied expressed some concerns he’s had with the election up to this point. Mujahid says “I don’t see much from
the FSU itself there not really doing anything. People hardly even know that these elections are going on and these are important elections for students. Even for last year, I heard it was only
around 730 plus votes and there are like 20,000 registered students here on campus.”
Mujahid says he is dissatisfied with the awareness of the election this year and would like to see a bigger turnout in votes. He also mentions that other than the lack of awareness he has been
satisfied with everything else including the way policies and regulations and how they have run “smoothly.” Mujahied has heard from Fanshawe students but mostly international students
expressing their concerns about their future here. he says “a lot of the students here are our international students so they are just more worried about the situation that’s going on all around
Canada and in terms of employment. They are just trying to you know, get their message across to me that if you win and we hope that you win but after that, please do something please do that.”
Mujahied also goes on to mention that promoting around the school is still happening and that posters aren’t supposed to be put up until the week before the election.
He says “for the FSU they have an election policy that the election campaigning only starts one week before the elections. So we’re not supposed to do anything before were only allowed to start
putting posters up and campaigning while promoting ourselves from Monday at 9 am and afterward but before that, we aren’t allowed to”
Mujahied has also thought about the food referendum and has had some insight on what is going on and has shared his thoughts on it and says.
“You should go and vote for this referendum because it tells the college what you’re standing for.”
Voting takes place on Wednesday, March 6th, 2024.
