As the weather gets nicer in London more people start riding their motorcycles.
In the last few years, injuries on a motorcycle have tripled in the amount of injuries’ more than there are in car accidents. According to Lalande Personal Injury Lawyer approximately 2,194 out 100-thousand registered motorcycles are involved in a crash causing injury in southern Ontario alone.
According to Statistics Canada, the most common area for motorcycle accidents leading to death are intersections at 31 per cent and highways at 30 per cent.
“Make sure that you’re doing your due diligence warm up your mind then more up your bike,” says Ed Sanchuck, Sargent for the OPP west region.
He also mentions that all people have to work together to keep everyone safe.
“Please make sure that you check twice because it’s Gonna Save a Life. So when you do pull up to that intersection have a look two three four times before you proceed to make sure that the ways clear because we have a habit as motor vehicle operators to look for a large trucks vehicles. Pickup trucks cars we’re not looking for motorcycles.”
Sanchuk adds that motorcyclists need to do their part as well to keep themselves safe.
“If you are riding a motorcycle, wear visible clothing making sure that you’re signaling your turns and keeping your head on a swivel as you’re checking intersections”.
For motorcyclists, following the rules of the road are important because, according to Statistics Canada, 1 in every 4 motorcycle fatalities are caused by excessive speed. Sanchuk adds that with the warmer weather around the corner do your part so everyone can get home safe.
