The City of London has officially announced that registrations for summer camps are open for the season.
The city offers various day camps across the area, located in various neighbourhoods and community centres.
“Our summer camps are incredibly popular,” says Supervisor for the Recreational Services Team with the City of London, Francesca Gable.
“We have locations all across the city and we try to fill as many spaces and neighbourhoods as possible. Because of our diverse offerings, we do find that they are quite popular and our camps often are full week to week.”
She says that they always look forward to the various selection of camps offered each year, with each being different from one another.
“With the City of London, all of our camp programs are of a general nature. The themes and the creative ways that our coordinators run these camps is entirely up to them. It’s not aligned across the whole city at the same time and we don’t run any specialty camps.”
Gable, along with her team, have been working since last year’s season ended, always looking at different options, hiring specialists, and more.
“Contrary to popular belief, a summer supervisor’s job really never slows down. A lot of the other times of the year is spent preparing for our busy season.”
She says that one of the things they work on each year is what they have access to. In previous years, particularly around the pandemic in 2020, they had to limit exactly what each camp was able to do. Nowadays though, they’re back to expanding all their options.
“We’ve been really excited to reintroduce field trips and swimming which have been a huge hit and we’re continuing with those this summer and then your general talent shows, arts and crafts, room for active play, and activities. Lots of different varieties that allow for children to try new things, make new friends, and make some memorable experience.”
With registrations open, there are limited numbers of spots available and Gable says it’s important to get signed up sooner rather than later.
“Our camps do fill up really quickly, so it isn’t uncommon at this time on registration day as it opens for camps to be full, but we do see some movement on the waitlist between now and the beginning of July.”
Gable stresses how important it is to get on registrations early and to look up all the available information about the potential camps.
“Signing up for our summer camps or any other city of London programs can be done at london.ca/playyourway and that’s where they can find links to our summer camps and any other programs for child needs or individuals of all ages.”
