For the first time in London, the Carrefour Communautaire Francophone de London (CCFL) is hosting a French Market ‘’Marché de Francophone’’ at their community centre on Saturday. The special event serves as a celebration of the International Day of Francophonie, acknowledged throughout the month of March.
The CCFL is an organization dedicated to the integration of the French-speaking community through activities, programs and services that promote a sense of belonging among Londoners. Folks are invited to attend this special event that will feature a variety of local talents from the Francophone community of London. The festivities will showcase an array of ethno-cultural
food, craftwork, dancing, poetry, and more.
‘’We are expecting 36 vendors. It will be very eclectic, with lots of potential. All vendors are French speakers,’’ says Alexandra Brioso, executive assistant at CCFL.
‘’I had this idea because we don’t know all the Francophones in the community. We are always trying to reach out to more and more people. I think it’s very important for us in Canada, and specially Ontario to celebrate this and do something to represent the community. Canada is supposed to be bilingual and in Ontario, it’s not really that case. For us, it’s really important to show that we are here, we are part of the community. We are part of the history.’’
For those interested, representatives from ‘’Collège Boréal’’, known for its programs offered to the Francophone community, will be available to respond to questions and showcase their services.
‘’We have a waitlist. We’ve reached full capacity, and therefore we can’t accept any more vendors. That’s already really amazing to me,’’ says Brioso.
The event will be held at the Carrefour Communautaire Francophone de London (CCFL) from 10 AM to 3 PM on Saturday. All Londoners are encouraged to come out and support vendors while enjoying an open stage.
