Dim Lights, spotlight. Now strut!
Fanshawe’s Loving Local event showcased local vendors and local businesses such as LoftHouse Living and Filthy Rebena.
The Marketing Management and Event Planning programs have collaborated to put on a show to feature two local clothing businesses and to let student-led models strut the runway wearing retailer’s clothes.
Nicole Arruda is a student in the Marketing Management Program and she was the marketing manager of the Loving Local Event. She explains that some alumni would be in attendance at the first-ever fashion show in Innovation Village’s Market Square.
“We collaborate in this event. All the vendors come from Leap Junction and are some of our past graduate students. Some have been in the program before like Jennifer Lofthouse of LoftHouse Living. She was one of the Fashion Market management students, and now she owns her own business,” says Arruda.
Jennifer Lofthouse, an alumni, was featured in the event as her business was on display.
“It’s like deja vu. I feel like I was just here as a student. It’s fun to be back and to see a new generation of students coming through,” says Lofthouse.
It was a full circle moment for Lofthouse now that she is a participant rather than a student.
“I have some clothes here and the models, who are students, are going to be rocking them on the runway. I’m excited to see them styled up,” says Lofthouse.
Lofthouse is not only an entrepreneur, she also has been teaching students.
“I’ve been able to come back and share all the knowledge I’ve learned and different ways the internet is expanding for fashion and digital entrepreneurship. It’s kind of my expertise because since covid, everything of my business went online and did wonders,” says Lofthouse.
Lofthouse participated by being one of the local businesses to lend their clothing to the program. All of the revenue gained from this event will be donated to Fanshawe’s The Sharing Shop which offers groceries to struggling students free of charge.
