Diogo Jota and his brother were killed in a car accident when their Lamborghini burst into flame near the city of Zamora.
Jota was 28 and had three children with his wife, Rute Cardoso, who married two weeks ago. He was a forward in the Liverpool Football Club. The team won the recent title of the season. He played 26 games, scoring four goals and giving four assists. He won three major trophies with the British team and two Nations League titles with the Portuguese national team.
Police said no other vehicles were involved and that it was just the brothers in the car. Officers are still investigating the causes of the accident.
In an official post, Liverpool said:
“The club has been informed that the 28-year-old has passed away following a road traffic accident in Spain along with his brother, Andre.”
“Liverpool FC will be making no further comment at this time and requests that the privacy of Diogo and Andre’s family, friends, teammates, and club staff be respected as they try to come to terms with an unimaginable loss.”
“We will continue to provide them with our full support.”
Jota’s brother, Andre Silva, who was 25, played with the club Penafiel in the 2nd Division of Portugal.
