The death of American conservative Charlie Kirk has drawn attention from political observers and politicians.
“I don’t monitor student groups and categorize campuses, but you can imagine that this is going to be a wake-up call for many of those groups, especially those who want to organize members,” said Matt Farrel, Professor of Politics at Fanshawe College.
“And when you’re trying to mobilize people around a cause, the Middle Eastern conflict, tensions between pro-Palestinian cause advocates, Israel advocates, the type of rhetoric that gets used to mobilize people to get them protesting or get them to go to rallies is really turned up to 11,” Farrel said.
“Maybe at least I think it would be a good thing if a lot of those campus groups and advocacy groups would see this as an opportunity to just kind of take the levels and understand that maybe that kind of rhetoric isn’t really very helpful,” Farrel said.
“Relatively few are accuracy driven who actually want to know the details and the public safety ramifications,” Farrel said.
