This year marks the 27th anniversary of the Grand Theatre High School Project. And for their 27th year, what better way to kick it off than Disney’s “Newsies.” The project aims to give highschoolers training and experience in the acting world from professionals.
They get experience with Stage management, sound and lighting, props and more.
In an interview with XFM, Breanne Ritchie, an education director said “it’s a great way for young people to get exposure to professional theatre, and understand whether that’s something they wish to pursue fulltime. As well as take all those transferrable skills that theatre teaches us. Theatre’s a great empathy driver, theatre teaches us to work on a deadline. so I believe that the 27 year tradition has pumped out some really professional and mature young people ready to take on whatever career path they choose.”
