If you ever had the chance to work for the fire department for one night, would you?
That’s the scenario a lost dog found himself in when he was located near Wonderland Road and Wharncliffe Road early Wednesday morning.
With no tags or documentation, and no other place to turn, the London Fire Department swooped in, putting the pup on the clock as support for the department’s communication centre.
“We named him Kevin.” said Lorrie Powless of the department’s communications staff.
Powless wasn’t there to see “Kevin” come through the doors, but a text was sent to all station staff overnight to prepare some food for their new furry friend.
“He spent the night with our night shift crew who looked after him, and fed him, and gave him lots of tender love and care.” added Powless.
“Kevin” initiated a social media spree from London Fire. It was a nonstop morning of getting the word out there, and sharing the post around trying to find “Kevin’s” rightful owner.

“We’re in the industry of helping the public.” said Patricia Brooks, Supervisor of the Communications Division.
Despite the fun had, Brooks continued by saying it shouldn’t be a regular occurrence.
“With that said, it is a unique situation. We certainly don’t encourage the public to be dropping off stray dogs to fire stations.”
Brooks concluded by giving a word of advice to pet owners.
“Have some sort of identification on them, so in the event that they do get lost and someone finds them, we are able to contact the owner and reunite them.”
“Kevin” has since been reunited with his family. The London Fire Department thanks the public for their support.
