East Park throws their second annual “Fairway Fest”.
Recognizing a gap in the fall festival market, the first ever Fairway Fest was hosted on Sept. 20-21, 2024 with a country music focused lineup while showcasing rock and hip-hop.
For this year, the festival kicked off on Sept. 18 at East Park’s Golf Gardens with their “Rock Revival” event featuring performances from Sass Jordan, The Box, and DJ Enchanted.
Event coordinator ofthe festival, Kayla Sibbald, says that keeping genres rock and hip-hop in their lineup was due to the success of last year’s festival.
““So last year we did a classic rock, and people really loved it. So you don’t break– what’s, you know, don’t switch what’s not broken.” she says.
“So we decided to go with it again this year and it’s with some great artists like Trooper and Chilliwack, uh, coming up. And then 90s, like, who doesn’t love a 90s throwback, who doesn’t like dressing up in our neon colours and coming out and supporting and then London too has a really strong, like, community for that so we thought it’d be a great choice.” added Sibbald.
She believes that the intimacy of the atmosphere at the festival is something that sets Fairway from other local festivals.
“You come here, you bring your lawn chair, it’s relaxed. We have drinks, we have amazing food trucks. So it is all those basic festival needs, but it’s right here in the East End. A lot of the community members walk down, walk home. So it’s really nice to just have that community and that intimacy in a festival.” says Sibbald.
Tonight, Fairway Fest’s “Rockin’ The Classics” event with performances Trooper, Chilliwack, and DJ Alpha. Then, September 20, it will be the “I Love The 90s” event featuring Rob Base, Young MC, and more.
