Londoners are being asked to ditch their cars for bikes this weekend as World Car Free Day approaches on Sept. 22.
This day promotes sustainability, active transportation, and community building, with various events throughout London.
City of London says “you’ll help reduce traffic congestion (and avoid rush hour traffic), lower greenhouse gas emissions, save money on gas and parking, and get extra movement in throughout your day.”
Events include a Bike Rodeo on Sept. 20, a Thames Valley Parkway ride along on Sept. 21, and a final celebration on Sept. 22.
Bikers can pass through King Street Bridge at Becher Street on the official day, with volunteers to cheer them on and a chance to indulge in morning coffee and treats.
City of London says if you participate in Car Free Day or attend any of the planned events, you are eligible to enter a contest.
Contest prizes include a bike tune up at London Bicycle Cafe (valued at $119) or one of 10 $25 City of London Recreation Gift Cards.
“Supporting active transportation choices is an important part of London’s Climate Emergency Action Plan and Mobility Master Plan,” said City of London.
