London’s first ever Techstars Startup Weekend was held over the weekend.
This event was held so that business people would have the chance to show their talents and take their ideas then turn them into companies.
XFM News spoke to the Event Coordinator Erica Oakes, about the event.
“I’ll give you a little background about Techstars Startup Weekend. It’s actually a globally organized event, so Techstars Startup Weekends happen all over the world. This weekend we actually communicated with a team that was also doing a startup weekend in Brazil”, says Oakes.
Oakes shares some insight onto how this event goes down.
“On Friday night, you kind of pitch to a room full of strangers, and from there you, you, we pick an idea. So, 10 ideas were selected on Friday night, and then from those ideas you form your team. So, we actually ended up having eight teams move forward and develop businesses over the weekend”, Oakes shares.
Oakes also shares how this event helps young people get jobs in the tech sector from this event.
“You can meet coders, we had a lot of software engineers, we had developers, we had scientists, and then we also had founders who have really big ideas and need to build a team to help bring those ideas to life. And so, it’s a great way for you to meet new people and try out this idea and really over the weekend see if it’s viable and it can turn into, if it can turn into a viable business.”
