The City of London has announced a new pilot project for a pair of lots on Queens Avenue between Adelaide and Elizabeth which will make parking in the lots during the day free for the next year and a half.
The two lots had previously been marked as locations for redevelopment into housing sites, but after the decision from city council Tuesday, the council’s strategic priorities and policy committee voted unanimously to endorse a recommendation from staff to remove the lots from a list of possible sites for housing development.
The city is still interested in potential hosing development on the lots in the future, but if the pilot project is approved it will ensure the lots are there until at least 2027.
Not all councillors are in agreement when it comes to the free parking, but if it passes final approval from council on Oct. 14 the program would wrap up in the first quarter of 2027 and drivers would still have to pay for parking from 11p.m. to 7a.m.
