Prime Minister Mark Carney will be hiring 1000 RCMP personnel so keep communities across Ontario safe, in his new reform that was announced, the bail system and sentencing laws could be changed in the near future.
“it will no longer be up to the crown to prove why someone should stay behind bars, it ill be up to the accused to prove to the court why they can be trusted to be released.” Says Carney during a hearing for the new reform.
From Canada.ca, it says “The Act would also toughen sentencing laws for repeat and violent crime, including car theft and extortion, meaning those found guilty can spend more time in prison.”
“The principle is balance: uphold the presumption of innocence and due process, while ensuring those who pose a demonstrable risk face meaningful conditions or detention. Communities and victims deserve a bail system they can trust.” said Chief of London Police Thai Truong in a statement.
London Mayor Josh Morgan is also in favor of this reform with his statement being; “London welcomes these proposed reforms as a critical and positive step toward restoring accountability, strengthening community safety and ensuring our justice system better protects law abiding citizens.”
