After a weekend of closures and repair work, the East Lions Community Centre in London is back up and running.
The facility was shut down on Friday, October 31, after a hydro outage damaged some of the building’s systems, including the pool’s infrastructure. Over the past few days, city crews and London Hydro worked together to replace a damaged transformer and restore power to the building.
On Sunday, November 2, the city announced that the centre would stay closed while teams worked to fix the issue. All programs and services were cancelled, and registered participants were told they’d receive updates about refunds or class extensions.
By Monday, November 3, most of the building systems had been restored, allowing non-aquatic programs such as fitness classes and community events to resume. However, the pool area remained closed as crews continued repairs on the final part of its infrastructure.
As of Tuesday, November 4, the city has confirmed that all aquatics programs have resumed, meaning the East Lions Community Centre is fully operational once again.
City officials thanked residents for their patience during the repairs and said they’re excited to welcome everyone back to enjoy regular programming.
