Construction has officially begun on Legacy Village, a massive new development in East London that will bring thousands of homes, jobs, and community spaces to the area over the coming years. The project is being built in phases and will eventually house around 10,000 to 15,000 residents, making it one of the city’s largest residential undertakings ever.
The development will include a mix of apartments, townhouses, and other housing types, along with local parks, shops, and community areas. City planners are also making sure that new transit connections and bike paths are part of the plan, so residents can get around easily.
Four heritage buildings and several historic landscape features on the site will be preserved and repurposed, blending the city’s history with the new neighborhood. In addition, the project is investing in green technology, including geothermal energy systems that will provide heating and cooling for the buildings.
Mayor Josh Morgan said, “Legacy Village is a huge step forward for London, turning a long-unused site into a vibrant community where people can live, work, and connect.”
“Deputy Mayor Shawn Lewis added, “This development isn’t just about housing it’s about creating a place where people can enjoy parks, shops, and transit all in one spot. It’s exciting to see it finally taking shape.”
With construction well underway, Legacy Village promises to be a hub of activity and growth, bringing new opportunities for families and businesses in East London for decades to come.
