The Toronto Blue Jays are going to do some scouting on a new bench coach as Don Mattingly decides to step away from the team.
Mattingly mentioned that he “kind of had a pretty good feeling that this was going to be my last year in Toronto” according to Thomas Harrigan and Elizabeth Muratore of MLB.com
He spent three seasons with the Jays and he had other seasons with the Los Angeles Dodgers and Miami Marlins where he has a lifetime record of 889 wins and 950 losses.
The 2025 World Series marked the first time Mattingly participated in the Fall Classic over his 39-year career which includes both coaching and playing first base.
“Donnie Baseball” isn’t planning on retiring and would be open to other coaching or even management positions.
The Philadelphia Phillies have discussed the idea of adding Mattingly as a bench coach.
