From roadway rehabilitation to rapid transit projects, London’s construction plan for 2026 comprises more than 100 lane-kilometers of roadwork as well as many intersection projects, bridge projects, and underground infrastructure projects. According to the city, the project is designed to repair aging infrastructure in the city and cope with the expansion of the city, but residents are having to deal with reduced lanes, detours, and delays.
One of the biggest areas of focus is Highbury Avenue South.
The rehabilitation project stretches from Hamilton Road toward Bradley Avenue and involves reconstructing the roadway and improving stormwater foundations. The project is expected to continue until November 2027.
The discussion comes at a time when London is preparing for its municipal elections on October 26, 2026, and residents can look at the construction planning, roadway capacity, transit, and mobility concerns of the candidates.
“The most important thing is growth; that’s where big challenges are in the city.” Ward 10 City Councillor Candidate Lois Ward says.
As London continues to grow, the challenge will be finding a balance between building for the future and keeping the city moving today.
