Deputy Mayor Shawn Lewis says he welcomes news that Uber Canada has crowned London with the title of Canada’s country’s top partying city for the second year in a row.
In its annual Nightlife Index released Oct. 28, the ridesharing service said London’s Richmond Row strip of bars and restaurants and Canada Life Place help drive the party atmosphere.
The city has so many venues in walking distance, making downtown the heart of partying.
“London should be a place where people can have fun instead a place where fun goes to die,” said Lewis. “It’s the place where people come for fun and entertainment.
London should claim its reality as the capital of southwestern Ontario.
The nightlife helps the city’s reputation, as well the economy with people supporting local bars and venues, said Lewis.
“Richmond Row is almost packed every night of the week,” said Danika Thompson a student at Western. “With Western being a party school it adds to London being a party city.”
Lewis stated college students are the anchor to the party mentality in London. He gives props to both schools for keeping a respectable atmosphere in London
“You get people outside coming to party, which helps the nightlife and small businesses stay open longer,” Thompson said. Lewis stated London has everything people need for a night out.
“For people outside the city you don’t need to move to a big city to find what you need, people from St. Thomas, Strathroy, Woodstock drive to London for the nightlife.”
In the statement from they said it reveals how Canadians enjoy after dark through Uber and Uber Eats.
