Ganesh Shenoy says he is not a professional athlete– nor is he a professional cyclist. That hasn’t deterred him from starting a 1000 mile bike ride from New York to Ada, Michigan.
Called the “Epic Bike Ride,” Shenoy hopes to raise awareness for Easterseals, a charity organization that wants to redefine how the world looks at disability.
Shenoy says that he didn’t start this ride because of any personal connection to the cause, but to give back to the ever-resilient community. He has chosen the World Trade Centre as his starting point, because its a symbol of America’s resilience in the face of adversity.
“I’ve been blessed with a great life. I have a beautiful, healthy family, a nice home and a wonderful business, but not everyone is so fortunate. I see families who have children with disabilities and how every day can be a struggle for them. I have no idea how families overcome these struggles on a day to day basis, but I do know that I want to help.”
Kiran Chamarty is a friend and business partner to Shenoy. He hails from Ajax here in Ontario and will join Shenoy at Hamilton and ride with him to London– about 40 miles. Coming into Canada has a few benefits, including that that Amway and Easterseals have centres here in London. By coming this far north, they hope that the Canadian branches of these charities can be supported by his run.
Shenoy has a goal of raising $500,000. To date, they have earned $64,375. You can contribute to Shenoy’s ride here and support him by coming to White Oaks Park on Monday August 16th at 11 a.m.
