The war between YouTube and Twitch for supremacy as the best gaming stream platform continues as the red brand signs another big contract. Live streamer Jack “CouRage” Dunlop signed a brand new deal with YouTube remaining as a part of the community. He announced the news in the tweet below earlier today.

This is not the first shot fired by YouTube as they also pulled TimTheTatman from Twitch earlier this year. TimTheTatman signed an exclusive contract with YouTube which meant he would no longer stream on Twitch. He announced the new deal earlier this year in a video very similar to CouRage’s.
The act of stealing talent has been very controversial with the community. Some in the community would consider switching platforms to follow their favorites, while some consider it traitorous. Live Streamer Manzell Hutten describes a similar situation he had when his favorite streamer Shroud moved to Mixer. Mixer is a streaming platform made by Microsoft that no longer exists.
“When Shroud did that for Mixer, I missed watching Shroud so much. I went out of my way to go watch him a little bit. But it’s just kind of like how TimTheTatman and Dr. Disrespect are on YouTube. They’re there, we know they’re there, we know we can easily watch them but it’s not where everybody else is. I guess it makes it harder to go to those platforms and want to watch them.”
Live Streamer BrodyTheGinger also has some opinions on the matter from the marketing point of view.
“It’s one that like in the marketing industry, we kind of struggle with quite a bit. I think if they go to a platform that I use, let’s say somebody jumped from Twitch to YouTube. I would be more inclined to view them in that situation than if somebody went from Twitch to Facebook. It would just be too inconvenient for me as a viewer.”
The consensus seems to be that if a streamer is not your favorite, the move to a different platform that you aren’t used to is too much of an inconvenience. This makes it that much more interesting when these deals keep coming and streamers continue to become exclusive. Time will tell who the next big streamer move will be as the streaming wars continue.
