Fanshawe College students are getting a chance to connect through a shared hobby today as the college hosts a Retro Game Night.
The event, hosted by Fuel Esports, happens from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the Forwell Hall. Students can play classic video games while socializing with the Fanshawe community.
Not only is this event great for meeting new people, but admission is also free.

Fuel Esports is located at Fanshawe College in room J2018. It’s operated by the Fanshawe Student Union, and provides students with a quiet space with free access to gaming computers and consoles.
For students adapting to the new school year, events like these provide an opportunity to relax from the stress of school, with people who share similar interests.

Retro games offer something different from newer games because they’re often simpler and more familiar. Adam Boyce, Fuel esports media lead believes that classic games are more appealing since they’re more familiar. “People like playing games that they played in their childhood. So being able to bring that back and let people have fun with it, we’ve got it.”

Some games included at the event are Wii with B-Sports, Mario Kart, Game Cubes, Super Smash Bros, as well as a rock band kit on stage.
Dozens of people were coming in as the event began, and students starting competing against their friends. The event even included retro tv’s to make it feel even more old-school.

This event is an easy way to make new friends. For anybody who is wanting a stress-free evening, pick up a controller and enjoy the event.
