As time has progressed, we have become more aware of the different ways that we’ve studied on how the body works and how it reacts.
We’re more focused on our health and wellness than before but a lot of people especially young adults don’t know how to workout. But a lot of injuries happen while working out or after.
Common workout injuries include Muscle pull and strain. A sprained ankle, back and shoulder injuries.
Nanci Plarina is a fitness instructor at the crunch and she also takes Zumba sessions at Fanshawe’s student wellness center. Nanci says a lot of injuries happen because young adults are scared of making mistakes.
“You have your other students that think they know what they’re doing. So, they think that they can get in there. Fast, fast, fast and get no results out of it. Or they end up hurting themselves. My motto is to start slow and go slow,” Nanci says.
What could be the main reason for the injuries that happen during workouts?
She says posture is a big key and to know how to hold the equipment on how to stand.
“The proper way is before you even think of working out is stretching. So, doing a warm-up. Just lifting your joints, stretches not too long, because you want to save all that actor your actual work,” she says.
She furthers that another reason of injuries sometimes is are the online fitness classes because you have nobody around to help you correct your posture.
“Some it works for people that have busy lifestyles. But I think the proper way is to get out to the gym, find a buddy, you know, a support buddy that will help you that’s going to be engaging with other with other students with other people making new friends, you know, in getting yourself out there and knowing the proper way. Hands on instead of being taught from a video,” she adds.
She encourages everyone to go to the gym and ask if you are not sure about what to do and how to perform a certain workout
“There’s lots of people behind the desk that are willing to show you the proper way. Don’t feel that it’s going to cost you money. Just go out there. They’ll give you a ten minutes brief of how to use the equipment because they don’t want you to hurt yourself,” she says.
John W.P Berthelot another fitness consultant and a customer representative at Fanshawe’s student wellness center says there are a lot of prevalent issues when it comes to injuries while working out.
“I think people do try to do too much and they don’t realize that it’s a slow build died, you don’t have to Rome wasn’t built in a day, as they famously say. And I think that’s important because many people just want to see the results instantly, but they don’t realize it’s a combination of all the hard work and effort that goes into it,” he says.
And
“You don’t Be weeks before you see the results. So, don’t feel like you have to go in there and be automatically working with higher weights or doing crazy three-hour gym sessions that start with the small stuff and rolls into the big stuff,” he adds.
