In today’s world, you can order almost anything to your doorstep: clothing, food, even groceries.
One local business will be delivering not a product, but a service.
DASH – Mobile Massage Therapy was created by Stephanie Lew and Alison Taylor. Both are Registered Massage Therapists, and have decided to take their business on wheels.
Lew believes that being a mobile business will help to better serve their clients, and open up a greater market.
“If you’re elderly and can’t leave the house- we come to you. If they have young kids and don’t have or want to get a babysitter, we’ll be there. For busy people who don’t want to drive 30 minutes to and from a clinic, we can meet you at your doorstep.”
While being mobile will be convenient for their clients, Lew says there are a lot of background business aspects that had to be considered.
In particular, safety.
Lew credits her background in martial arts for helping her feel safe about the mobile practice. In addition, they’ll run on a system of communication and have an Operations manager to help ensure their location and safety is a top priority.
“We’re expected to communicate when you arrive and when you leave. We each know each other’s schedule so we know where each other should be. If one of us has a client and can’t check in or reach out, that’s where the Operations manager will step in to ensure there’s always a way to communicate.”
Lew says there were many business aspects and logistics that had to be thought out in their planning process. In addition to many meetings with banks and lawyers, the co-owners had to consider the timing of set up and take down, driving to and from locations in the midst of traffic, and the cost of gas.
They have decided to give an extra 15 minutes each way for set up and take down, set up a spreadsheet with London neighbourhoods to make sure they’re not driving all the way across town, and figure the cost of gas is cheaper than renting a space.
Lew said she can’t wait to get the business out of the planning stages and on the road.
DASH – Mobile Massage Therapy will take to the streets of London on November 1st, and are accepting appointments now.
