In the event of an emergency, the City of London has a plan. The Emergency Response Plan outlines not only what could happen, but who and how to deal with disaster.
Dave O’Brien is the Division Manager of Corporate Security and Emergency Management, he says that although the city has trained response teams in place it’s also up to everyday citizens to help deal with emergencies.
“We include the public as one of our partners. They play a critical role in the successful management of any emergency situation.”
Emergencies can range from severe weather (like tornadoes or flooding), to extended power outages, to chemical spills, or even terrorist attacks.
While the city has a plan, O’Brien explains that individuals and families should make and agree on their own plan.
“We encourage all members of our community to give some time to developing a plan for themselves and their family.”

One way to keep up to date on any emergencies that may be happening in London is to register for the Alert London Notification System.
The system provides alerts to the public by sending a message to your home phone, if you register your cell phone you’re able to choose how you receive the notification; by voice, text or even email.
If there is an emergency, O’Brien implores the public to take proper steps to ensure not only their safety, but the safety for those around them as well.
“If alerts and advisories are out, please listen to them and follow the directions that are given.”
