“My favorite part of doing this whole thing is seeing the reactions,” says owner Madison Lambert of MADArt London.
MADArt London is a small business designed to help Lambert create and sell her own artwork. But this young artist is using local businesses as her inspiration.
Hoping to support them during the pandemic, Lambert says that doing this has reignited her passions towards painting.
“I had to find ways to help myself do it again,” explains Lambert. “Once I started doing this, it made me happy.”
Lambert has been creating these hand-painted portraits of local businesses and surprising the owners with her finished artwork at the end of every week. A project she calls #PaintthetownLondon.
“My favorite part of doing this whole thing is seeing the reactions.”
“Sometimes I’ll get people that are super happy and just want to hug me but they can’t. I’ve had people just be shocked and not knowing what to say and recently I’ve gotten recognized by the business which was very shocking to me.”
Lambert was recently visiting BXCR Doughnuts when the employees recognized her as she walked through the doors. Something Lambert thought she would never experience.
“On my way to BXCR Doughnuts, my sister was actually asking me ‘do you think they’re gonna notice you?’ And I said, ‘no, they’re not going to notice who I am.’ But they did.”
Coming from an artistic family, Lambert says that art has always brought her joy and helps her express who she really is.
“I really like how open and expressive I can be. You’re allowed to be who you are without being judged.”
The BealArt student says it’s been a challenging year filled with frustration and unexpected obstacles. But Lambert says that motivation will only remain through perseverance. Since starting MADArt London, she has found new ways to lift herself up again, while simultaneously lifting up the spirits of local businesses.
“Find ways to make yourself happy.”
