Earlier this week, we found out that London airport, which has struggled financially during the pandemic, was expecting to resume flight to some sunny locations in December.
However, Londoners who booked their International flights for December have been told that their flights are cancelled. This cancellation has come as a result of the federal government not clearing international flights to use the London airport.
Air carrier, Sunwing flights have 14 cancelled flights for the month of December. Sunwing had plans to fly from mid-December to mid-April to Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic, Veradero in Cuba and Cancun in Mexico from the London airport. With their December flights cancelled, Sunwing remains hopeful that their flights can fly out of London from January.
Air Transat also had to cancel their December flight from the London airport. The air carriers remain hopeful and are still selling tickets for January flights to sunny destinations from the London Airport.
Mike Seabrook, CEO of the London airport said, “The air carriers are certainly putting pressure on the government as well to open up these other airports (airports not authorized to operate international flights) so it is a combined effort, the whole industry wants the restrictions lifted.”
Mike also remains hopeful and is expecting a positive update on the situation after the cabinet swearing-in ceremony next week.
