At the OCAA Badminton Championships, Fanshawe was up against the best of the best. The tournament ended with three medals going to Fanshawe in some very close matchups. These medals were won in both men’s and women’s competitions, making Fanshawe very proud.
The first medalist came in the Women’s Singles competition. It would end up being a Bronze medal after both Zoya Virk and Morgan Grant lost in the semi-finals. This would set up the Bronze medal game, and since both women were from Fanshawe, the school was guaranteed their first medalist of the tournament. In a tough match, Zoya Virk ended up victorious, winning the Bronze medal. Having two Fanshawe athletes in the top 4 is a fantastic accomplishment for Fanshwe’s Badminton team.
The second medalist came in Women’s doubles. Fanshawe’s dynamic duo of Kaitlyn Murray and Mook Prasarn finished third in the round-robin portion of the tournament. Unfortunately, they would lose their semi-final matchup, setting up a Bronze medal game with George Brown. The duo would dominate George Brown in the matchup taking home the Bronze.
The third and final medalist of the tournament came in the Men’s doubles. Fanshawe’s dominant pairing of San Dang and Arpitraj Sinha finished second in the round-robin and looked good going into the semi-final round. The pairing won their matchup against Humber, sending themselves to the Gold medal game. In the Gold medal game, they took on the number-one ranked Seneca and could not be victorious. The duo came second and received the Silver medal.
Despite no Gold medals, all of these athletes should be proud of their accomplishments. Medaling in three different categories is a fantastic accomplishment. The Badminton team made Fanshawe very proud.
