Environment and Climate Change Canada has issued air quality warnings throughout Ontario, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, British Columbia, and Alberta as wildfire smoke continues to impact large areas of the country.
The situation is especially concerning in Northwestern Ontario, with active wildfire activity contributing to sustained harmful air quality levels.
Environment and Climate Change Canada issued an Air Quality Health Index (AQHI) scale that ranges from 1 (Low Risk) to 10 (Very High Risk). On Tuesday this week, London will be at a moderate risk level of 5 and improving to a low-risk level of 3 on Wednesday.
Air Quality Canada Inc., an indoor air testing company, provided some recommendations to help reduce the health impacts of pollution.
“Keep the doors and windows closed as much as you can, change your air furnace filters regularly, and purchase an air purifier,” said Air Quality Canada Inc. CEO Jonathan Cohen. “The pollution and toxic chemicals in the air could lead to respiratory issues.”
Londoners are advised to stay informed and take precautions as needed.
