Conservative activist Charlie Kirk was shot and killed during a public event in Utah on Wednesday, Sept. 10.
Kirk, 31, was the co-founder and chief executive officer of Turning Point USA, a right-wing political advocacy group based in the United States.
According to a statement posted on social media by Utah Valley University, the shooting occurred around noon local time. “A shot was fired at Charlie Kirk, a guest speaker. He was hit and removed from the premises by his bodyguards,” the statement said.
Kirk’s death was later confirmed on social media by U.S. President Donald Trump, who described him as “great, even legendary.”
The suspected shooter has not been arrested, Orem Mayor David Young said. Police have not released any further details, and the investigation remains ongoing.
Former U.S. president Joe Biden also posted about Kirk on X.
