On Wednesday, September 10 at around 3 p.m. London police spotted a pickup truck with a person riding in the bed of the vehicle. The police officer attempted a traffic stop where the truck “fled from the marked police cruiser” says the London Police Service.
Shortly after, the officer came across a two-vehicle crash involving the pickup truck and an SUV at the intersection of William Street and Queens Avenue. The driver of the pickup truck allegedly ran from the scene.
The Special Investigation Unit, also known as SIU, took over the investigation yesterday afternoon with five investigators, two forensic investigators and one collision reconstructionist.
The SIU reports three people with serious injuries including a 45-year-old from the truck and a 70-year-old man from the SUV as well as a 67 year old woman that currently has life-threatening condition. A fourth person sustained minor injuries from the collision.
The SIU has currently cleared the scene but London Police Services are still doing their own investigation. The cause of the crash is still unknown while under the SIU’s investigation.
London Police Services say there are still road closures at the intersection of Queens Avenue and William Street.
