Canadian journalist Beverly Thomson, has passed away at the age of 61.
Thomson passed away on Sunday after a long battle with cancer, she was surrounded by family in her final moments, CTV News reported.
Primarily known for her work as co-host on CTV’s Canada AM, her career spanned over 30 years and included high profile interviews with politicians and celebrities including Celine Dion, Shania Twain, Chris Hadfield, and Barack Obama.
Thomson was described as a “trusted voice and a valued teammate to all of us at CTV News” said Richard Gray, vice-president of news at Bell Media.
Upon her diagnosis with breast cancer, Thomson became a strong advocate for several cancer awareness charities.
Thomson was awarded an industry lifetime achievement award last October, and was a 2019 recipient of the Order of Canada for her contributions to the broadcasting industry and volunteer work with multiple breast cancer organizations.
