The Cami auto battery plant will remain shut when the vehicle manufacturer resumes production in Nov. 2025.
Mike Van Boekel who is the Local 88 Union Plant Chief shared his thoughts with XFM News.
“Well it’s gonna be tough for about 600 employees.” Van Boekel states.
“We have about 1,05o production workers, under 400 are coming back, So, easy math about 600 families, really 600 people but each person represents a family.”
Van Boekel also went on to share his thoughts about what is directly causing the continued plant layoffs, and he shared that he thinks it’s directly interlinked with U.S. auto tariffs.
“I definitely think it has something to do with it for sure, obviously the whole auto world is getting flipped on it’s head right now with what’s happening right now but for sure I think it does.”
The plant opened last year but is now facing an uncertain future with these layoffs.
