Museum London’s newest exhibit called “All Around Me, All Around You” explores how inspiration is drawn from daily life.
Featured in the exhibit are past and present artifacts and artworks found in the museum’s permanent collections; with many derived from local artists such as Jack Chambers, Paul Peel, Jessica Karuhanga, and Bernice Vincent– the artist whose work inspired the title.
Abby Vincent, the museum’s head of marketing and development, says that the exhibit is a space where people can reflect on their own life.
“It’s about finding beauty in the everyday. Uh, thinking about things– ordinary or extraordinary, the places we go, the people we think about, the memories we have, the language we use, uhm, and how creative people have long used these as a source of inspiration for their work.” says Vincent.
The museum also underwent changes such as taking out the carpets, refinishing the floors, replacing the internal walls, as well as creating interesting ways guests can interact with the gallery.
Vincent says that touch, smell, and listening to things are critical parts in learning.
“We have a digital version of this project, we also have some interviews with artists and experts that are available on our website, we have French translations, and we’ll also have a series of tactile elements that people can kind of, touch and play as a way to learn more about some of these pieces.”
Museum London will be hosting the “Doors Open” event on Saturday; an event that offers Spanish and English exhibition tours, studio workshops, film screenings, and their 20th anniversary corn roast, and many more. The museum is free admission but donations are highly encouraged.
