Ontario Public Service Employees Union held a solidarity rally for those affected workers.
The rally took place at the Fanshawe College Boulevard entrance.
This rally was held to show solidarity for the affect workers by the support staff strike, that started on Sept. 11 and has gone on ever since.
Local 109 OPSEU President Adam Rayfield had this to share with XFM News.
“They remain the same as before and we’re looking for some job security in the face of so much uncertainty. We’re looking to hopefully secure funding for the system so that the future of student success is achieved. (0:22) And we’re ultimately today calling on the College Employer Council to return to the table so that we can bargain that contract. (0:28) And see that through so that we can return to work and continue to support the students we care for.”
Rayfield was one of many different speakers at this event.
Mary Henry who is the CUPE 4222 head of Thames Valley shared her thoughts.
“We stand with any education worker, any union worker to support, because as we all know, coming together makes us stronger, and so that we can have our voices heard, and our voices need to be heard, because with this government, and those that work underneath the government, they are stripping us from everything that we can, and we are in Canada, and in order for Canada to survive, we need education”
