The intersection of Oxford Street and Second Street will be closed for two business weeks from sept. 22 for phase 4 of the East London Link.
Construction will be starting Monday at the intersection of Oxford and Second. The construction will be closing off all traffic from both streets. Local traffic and pedestrians will still be able to have restricted movement for impacted businesses.
XFM News contacted the City of London and was unable to get a response for additional information beyond the public announcement.
Detours have been made, and signage has been posted for reroutes of Oxford Street as well as Second Street.
The London Transit Commission has changed routes impacted by the construction. They have not been announced yet.
XFM News asked Fanshawe students for their opinion on the intersection closure.
One student said, “It’s awful, it’s gonna completely kill this intersection and getting into Fanshawe.” They exclaimed that “as a student it’s gonna be unbearable.”
Another student that frequently takes the bus to Fanshawe says “It’s extremely inconvenient, for not only students but staff.” They continued that “the buses are already cancelled (at) half of the spots.”
The construction is planned to finish on oct. 3 depending on weather.
