Huron County OPP say a Goderich woman is facing a criminal negligence charge after two separate dog attacks in the same neighbourhood left two people injured and one dog dead.
The first incident was on Aug. 3, 2023. Two unleashed dogs attacked a pedestrian who was walking their pets on Gibbons Street. One of their dogs was killed, and the victim needed medical attention. The owner was charged at the time under Ontario’s Dog Owner Liability Act (DOLA).
On July 29, 2024, almost a year later, police say the same dogs were involved in a second attack. This time, the person who was injured was on a mobility scooter and walking their dog.
After the second incident, a 36-year-old woman from Goderich was charged with criminal negligence causing bodily harm. She has been released from custody and is due in court on Oct. 6. The dogs are staying with the owner pending a DOLA hearing.
