Canada Post workers have officially walked off the job.
The National Director of the Ontario region, Mark Platt shared his thoughts about the situation.
“We were waiting for their response to our last global offer that we gave them a few weeks ago, and we were promised to receive it this week”.
Platt also shared his thoughts on what the key issues the union workers are fighting for.
“We’re looking for 19 percent over four years. They’re at 13 percent. The average industrial federal wage increase in the last couple of years has been four percent, They won’t even give us that”, Platt said.
“We still do things like flyers, but we are in the parcel market. They have given away almost 30% of the parcel market. So before the pandemic, they were close to 60% of the market in the country”, Platt shares.
Platt also shares that they saw this whole situation as collusion between the Government and Canada Post.
With this strike there will be no more mail deliveries to mailboxes around Canada.
There is no known resolution date or next round of bargaining talks.
