Joanne Thompson, Fisheries Minister announced that the federal government would not grant the permits required to ship Marineland’s 30 beluga whales to China.
Marineland could end up euthanizing the belugas if it can’t figure anything out, as it would be cruel to keep the belugas in these captivities.
Thompson says that the whales deserve to live in a good home but the Chinese aquarium wouldn’t be the place, she couldn’t approve the shipment knowing that these whales were being forced to perform.
While she is against shipping them to China, she is welcome to other proposals.
