London Free Press is reporting that a pot shop in downtown has re-opened, after being raided twice.
A joint cannabis enforcement team led by the Ontario Provincial Police issued a search warrant at the Chiefs’ Corner on Richmond Street on August 20. Investigators seized pot products and cash and charged a 25-year-old woman.
However, the business, which was not licensed by the Ontario Alcohol and Gaming Commission (AGCO), reopened shortly after the raid.
Officers returned to Chiefs Corner on September 12, seizing cannabis products again and charging a 22-year-old woman.
Police held the property under the Cannabis Control Act, the law requiring anyone with an interest in the property, including the owner, to apply to the Superior Court of Justice to gain access.
Chief’s Corner is among a handful of so run dispensaries called indigenous that have popped up across London in recent years.
Chippewa Nation’s hereditary Crane Clan chief condemned the police action as illegal.
Last month, the owners of a commercial property at 91 Wellington St. successfully applied to the court to be given access to their building, which had been seized by police as part of a raid on an unlicensed pot shop on July 23.
