The roar of the crowd is something that is the apex of any sport. Fans are the driving force behind any sport and always come out to cheer for their team. Blue Jays fans know this all too well with the Jays being the only tea
m in Canada. The Montreal Expos used to be in Canada, but bolted for Washington and became the Nationals before the start of the 2005 season. If you’re from Canada and you enjoy Baseball, your team is most likely the Toronto Blue Jays. The team has completely reinvigorated the passion of the fanbase, coming off a season where the team went 74-88 and finished last in their division, this year’s team has flipped that upside down. They won the AL East, beat the New York Yankees in the ALDS and beat the Seattle Mariners in the ALCS to advance to the World Series.
The team has done a complete 180 from a year ago, Blue Jays reporter for Blue Jays Nation Ian Hunter, shared his thoughts about the fans. “It was just, I think it was kind of, it felt for fans, maybe they felt like they were playing, the Blue Jays were playing with house money. So it’s been in this incredible journey. I mean, they just made the World Series for the first time in 32 years. I realize the Blue Jays have won World Series in 92, 93, but there’s, a new generation of Blue Jays fans who have not, didn’t experience that.” Hunter also goes onto talk about the pride of being Canadian, “Yeah, I would say there’s maybe a little bit more civic pride. Especially in cases where you’re seeing the national anthems played, maybe it’s just confirmation bias, but I kind of feel like maybe there is a little bit more pride when you’re seeing that Canadian national anthem.” During the Four Nations Faceoff back in February 2025, both Canadian fans and American fans booed each others national anthem as part of an ongoing political tension, between Canada and the United States. Hunter also shared that we could see the possibility of “USA” chants when the series shifts to Los Angeles.
Fans also shared what they think about cheering for the Blue Jays.
“I think it just highlights really that, you know, the Blue Jays aren’t just Toronto’s team or Ontario’s team. It’s Canada’s team and the whole country has gotten around and rallied behind the Blue Jays. And yeah, I think it just adds an extra dimension to the playoffs, especially, you know, with the Yankee fans booing the Canadian national anthem”, said lifelong Blue Jays fan John Peevers.
Fans at local pubs also weighed in about what they felt.
“This brings me back to when I was a kid, when they were going back-to-back, 92-93 there. It’s an exciting time for everybody, and we know the Leafs aren’t going to do it, so someone’s got to do it. Let’s go, Jays. Between Canada Hockey and everything like that, I’ve never, ever wanted to beat them
more. The knob doesn’t go down from 10 there, so can’t be more, can’t be less. It’s always at 10″, said one fan.
“ I don’t think it’s changed, but I think after not too long ago when Canada played the US in hockey, I think it’s the same thing. Our entire country rallies behind one team, and I absolutely love that about us. I’m so confident right now”, said another fan.
“just pride of being Canadian. It’s our team, we only got one, and we’re gonna be behind them no matter what. I don’t really pay attention to that. It’s about baseball, it’s kind of like, we’ve always had the mentality as Jays fans. It’s us against them, it’s us against the world. We stand alone up here, and I think it’s always been us against everybody else”, said another Jays fan talking about the feelings he gets when he cheers for the team.
