Teams impacted most:
Philadelphia Eagles: GM Howie Roseman made a lot of big moves leading up to the deadline, stacking up the defense. The defending Super Bowl champions are off to a 6-2 start on the season, but are bottom 10 in offensive and defensive yards per game. They added CB Jaire Alexander, CB Michael Carter II and LB Jaelan Phillips to the defense before the deadline day. The biggest weakness for the Eagles team has been passing the ball, throwing for less than 200 yards a game, and sitting at the eighth lowest passing yards a game.
New York Jets: New York has committed to the rebuild, trading away two of their best defensemen. They traded star cornerback Sauce Gardner to the Indianapolis Colts for two first-round picks and WR Adonai Mitchell. Sauce has been an elite cornerback since he entered the league, being an All-Pro cornerback his first two seasons. This should help the Colts fresh secondary, as they’ve been struggling with the new adjustments made in the offseason.
The Jets also traded away superstar DT Quinnen Williams to the Dallas Cowboys for DT Mazi Smith, a first-round pick and second-round pick. Quinnen Williams is a three-time Pro Bowler in his seven seasons he’s played. The Jets have started the season 1-7, being littered with injuries. The team will likely tank for the first overall pick now, as their defense just got worse.
Dallas Cowboys: Jerry Jones followed suit of Roseman, trying to stack up on defense. They traded for both DT Quinnen Williams and MLB Logan Wilson. The rushing defense has been a major struggle for Dallas after trading Micah Parsons in the offseason. Jones was confident at the time for the Parsons trade, but the team ranked just outside the bottom twelve in opponent rushing yards a game. This trade should add much needed help on the defensive line. The offense has been a strong point, with QB Dak Prescott having a great season, and newly acquired WR George Pickens having a career year.
New Orleans Saints: The Saints traded away two major pieces for the injured team. They traded away OL Trevor Penning to the Chargers and WR Rashid Shaheed to the Seahawks for draft capital. Shaheed was a major part of the offense, being a main target for QB Spencer Rattler. New Orleans acquired a sixth-round, fifth-round and fourth-round pick in return for the hauls. The Saints have started the season 1-8, with the trades hinting at them committing to tanking. Veteran RB Alvin Kamara and WR Chris Olave were rumoured to be traded, but did not move.
