Hamza Siddique Astroworld attendee.
The Astroworld concert has turned into a tragedy after 9 deaths were reported. 50,000 people had bought the tickets and attended the concert; just to be pushed, pulled, and dragged among the crowd.
Hamza Siddique, a 20-year-old attendee who bought tickets with his friends and was ready to have a fun night at the concert, was not prepared to be surrounded by dead bodies later on that night. Hamza said that he and his friends arrived late to the concert and it was hard for them to go in since a lot of people who did not have tickets were trying to break in. Hamza also said that the security system was very weak; he was barely checked, and he was not asked for an identification card. He said that under age individuals were allowed in and were not asked for ID. “How are they allowing people this young in… there should have been an age limit. something bad was gonna happen, I could already tell from the start.” Hamza said.
Hamza said that concert was normal before Travis Scott entrance around 9 pm. Everyone was enjoying and having fun until it was Travis Scotts‘ set.
At exactly 8 pm, everyone rushed to the stage where Travis Scott was coming out. Everyone was pushing each other…body to body. At some point I fell to the ground.” Hamza said. He said that people started running towards the exit doors due to the lack of oxygen and having a difficult time breathing. “One section people were injured and crying for help, another section people are enjoying… they do not know what is going on.” he said.
Hamza later saw an unconscious girl on the ground. “I noticed this girl she was fully injured and knocked out, I saw some people were trying to make a circle around her so that no one steps on her. I tried to help her up… we eventfully get her up and we took her to the back where someone could get her help” Hamza said.
He said that people were unconsciously stepping on each other. “I noticed a big circle of around 30 people who were fully passed out on the ground… everyone on top of each other. Hamza said.
Hamza said that he is sure that Travis Scott acknowledged that people were passing out on the ground and he stopped the concert for about a minute but continued with the songs after. “Make sure he is good.” Travis said. Hamza continued to search for his friends whom he lost at the start of the concert and he found his friend injured.
Hamza and the others were trying to get the camera men’s attentions but nobody helped. “The camera man took his stuff and left. He had a walkie talkie he could have alerted someone and gotten help but he did not.” Hamza said. The medical staff came in an ambulance later and said they did not have enough resources to help everyone out. “Why are they going into this without having any material to help the people?” Hamza asked.
Live nation, the entertainment company that promoted the concert has a history of tragedies; such as the suicide bomber at Ariana Grande’s concert in Manchester, England, in 2017; as well as the mass shooting at the Route 91 Harvest country music in Las Vegas, later in 2017. ” I don’t know who thought of having them as promoters but it was definitely not a good idea.” Hamza said.
