Canada is hosting the largest number of international students than ever. Yet, diversity in students is seen to be declined.
Canada has always been popular for foreign students. In 2021, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) issued nearly 450,000 study permits, that is the highest record in history. As of December 31, 2021, Canada has hosted nearly 622,000 international students.
The top 3 countries that have been granted most study permits (as of December 31, 2021) were India, China and France. India, in particular, was granted 217,410 study permits, that is nearly 50 per cent of the total number of study permits issued globally.
It is seen that Canada is having a declining diversity in international students. Fanshawe College has an international enrolment this fall by 26 per cent, hosting students from more than 100 countries.
“There should be more marketer who are doing more campaigns and also introducing to all the countries about the school,” said Patricia Nguyen, a Fanshawe international student ambassador from Vietnam. “So that students from all nationalities can know about Fanshawe.”
