Fanshawe sports are back in full swing, and the women’s soccer team is looking to make a strong statement this season with a mix of seasoned returnees and fresh talent.
Head coach Anthony Vassallo said he’s optimistic about the team’s performance and what lies ahead.
“We’ve come in strong this year. We’ve got some really good returners to bring experience and to build on what we accomplished last year,” said Vassallo. “The new recruits have complemented that well. For the rest of the season, we want to continue competing and aim for a better finish than last year.”
Vassallo said the goal is clear: improve their position in the standings and secure a home playoff berth.
“Hopefully we can finish in that top four,” he said.
So far, the Falcons have shown solid progress. Vassallo praised the team’s start and noted their growth, especially with many rookies on the roster.
“The season’s been going well so far—better than the first few games of last year. We’re 1-1-1 right now, and we’ve competed in every game,” he said. “We’ve earned four points in three games. It’s a good start. Of course, we always want better, but with so many first-years, it takes a few games to gel and learn how everyone plays.”
Fanshawe is set to face the Conestoga Condors on Wednesday.
