Two churches in southwestern Ontario were destroyed by fire over the weekend.
On Sunday Nov. 1, 2020 at 6:17 a.m., members of the Middlesex County OPP and the Chippewa Fire Department (CFD) responded to a fire at the St. Andrew’s Anglican Church located at 81 Chippewa Rd. in Muncey, Ont.
Just six hours earlier, around 12:30 a.m., crews responded to a fire at the South Caradoc United Church, a historical church in Strathroy-Caradoc.
The two churches were just 7 kilometres apart.
The CFD said the fire had already engulfed St. Andrew’s Anglican Church by the time they arrived at the scene. Crews in Strathroy had the same experience at South Caradoc United Church.
Crews eventually were able to control both blazes, but police say the churches are a complete loss. Both fires have been deemed suspicious, and provincial police are working alongside the Ontario Fire Marshall to determine the cause.
No injuries were reported.
